Humanities

Humanties 10 is a new course offered at Sexsmith Secondary School this year. It is a year-long course that integrates the English and Social Studies curricula under the over-arching theme, “Perspectives in Globalization.” Students involved in this course will be participating in a Global Citizenship Project with Canada World Youth which will take them to Santa Elena, Costa Rica for two weeks in April. Our purpose in going to this small rural village is to help the community with some of their sustainable development projects and to experience first-hand some of the challenges and opportunities that globalization brings to another culture. We are very excited about this opportunity! The Humanities 10 students have been busy, not only learning about global issues in class, but also raising awareness and funds for this endeavor. We have just begun a “Slave Auction” campaign as part of our fund-raising activities. For the next six weeks, twenty-six students are making themselves available to help you with any odd jobs you may need to have done. Whether it is babysitting while you go Christmas shopping or shoveling snow, they are eager to practice a variety of skills in preparation for the Project in Costa Rica! “Slave Auction” forms are available at the school office, or from any Humanities 10 student. If you need more information, please feel free to contact either Miss Viken or Mrs. Crandall. Dr. Ratna Kali Grande Prairie Family If you are interested in sponsoring this project, please contact Sexsmith Secondary School. Thank you. |
