Social Studies

Social Studies is the study of people in relation to each other and to their world.  It encompasses history, geography, economics, political science, cultural identities, and ideologies.  The ultimate goal of Social Studies is to develop active and responsible citizens.  Social studies foster students’ understanding of and involvement in practical and ethical issues that face local and global communities.

At Sexsmith Secondary School we study a diversity of Social topics; Globalization, Nationalism, Political & Economic Ideologies, Aboriginal Perspectives, Canada: Past, Present & Future.  This core program develops students’ identities, critical thinking skills, citizenship, and community responsibility, enabling students to become critical thinking, empowered, and involved members of our society.
